Stavyschensky district
1. Historical background.
Stavyshensky district is one of southern districts of Kyiv District,
its center is a town of Stavyshe. The territory of the district is
crossed by state (Kyiv-Odessa) and district (in direction of Tetiev,
Volodarka) motorways.
Stavyshensky district has a long history since IX — ХШ centuries when
the Slavs settled down in Torchycia, Stryzhavka, and Vynarivka. At the
end of XVI century a great town (as for those times) Liubomir was found
on the lands of Bila Tserkva, it was ravaged by the Tatars later but
isolated villages located near numerous lakes (there were about 100
lakes in diameter of 20 km) were named Stavyshe.
The archeological finds in the district have been discovered near
villages Vynarivka and Torchycia (these settlements were found at about
7-5 millennium B.C.), also the ruins of an old Russian town (10-13
centuries) were found near the village Antonivka. The town of the Torch
tribes was found near the village of Torchycia, it dates from the 9-10
centuries.
The cossacs of Stavyschensky district took part in the liberation war
of 1648- 1654. Bohdan Khmelnytsky was in Stavysche several times.
According to the folklore Ivan Gonta was in Suhy Jar.
After the right-bank Ukraine and the left-bank Ukraine were united as a
part of Russia, Stavysche lands became a part of the Tarasha District
of Kyiv province. Stavyschensky district was created on 03/07/1923. It
is situated in south-western part of Kyiv District, in Prydniprovska
height of right-bank Ukraine forest-steppe.
The district includes 23 village councils and 30 settlements; its center is a town of Stavyshe.

Stavyschensky district is situated in south-western part of Kyiv
District, in Prydniprovska height of right-bank Ukraine forest-steppe.
The district borders upon Zhaskiv district of Cherkassy District in the
south and south-east, Tetiyivsky district, Bilotserkovsky district,
Volodarsky district and Tarashansky district of Kyiv District in
south-west, north, north-west and north-east correspondingly. From
south to north the territory of the district is crossed by small
rivers: the Torch and the Targan, from west to east it is crossed by
the river Gnylyj Tikych.
The territory is mainly flat, soil: black earth and chestnut.
The territory of the district has such minerals: sand, peat, clay
suitable both for manufacturing ceramic tile and for using in pottery.
Torchycia has a source of table water.
Distance to big cities: Kyiv -139 km.
Distance to the nearest airport — 171 km.
3.Climate.
Climate of the district: temperate-continental, mild, humid, with
long warm summer and temperate, short non-persistent winter with small
blanket of snow and often thaws.
Directions of winds: in winter — north-western, in summer — south and south-eastern.
Average temperature of January: -10ºC.
Average temperature of June: 16,5ºC.
Average summer air humidity: 80-75% .
Average winter air humidity: 85-80%.
Annual precipitation: 590-605 mm.
4. Population.
District: 25,5 th. people; including village — 18,2 th. people, town — 7,3 th. people.

5. Education and training.
Education institutions functioning in the district: 3 teaching and
educational complexes, 10 schools, 10 teaching and educational centers,
the Center for children and youth, district children’s home “Svitanok”,
district methodical room, film library. Total number of pupils: 3864 in
245 form-sets (259 classes). There is a consulting office of
correspondence school attached to The Stavyshe Teaching and Educational
Center No. 2. Four boarding schools are attached to the educational
institutions, number of pupils living there: 110.

8. Living standards.
Medical institutions:
The network of medical-prevention institutions of the district
include The Central District Hospital (160 beds), Krasyliv Divisional
Hospital (10 beds), Ivanivka Divisional Hospital (10 beds), Zhuravlyha
and Torchycia ambulance stations and 21 aid and obstetrical stations.
It is necessary to point out that on the basis of divisional
hospitals in Krasylivka and Ivanivka ambulances of family therapy with
2 doctors and 4 medical nurses in staff function.
Attendance of ambulances in the district: 615 visits in a shift,
including visits to ambulances in Zhuravlyha, Torchytsia, Krasylivka
and district hospital (375 visits in a shift).
Number of beds: 65.6 per 10,000 people (District performance: 61.4).
Drugstores of the districts:

The control of the sanitary state of district objects and
prophylactics of infectious diseases are being carried out by the
District Sanitary-Epidemiological Station.

Cultural institutions.
The network of cultural institutions of the district include 24
clubs for 8,300 places, among them: village culture homes — 4, town
culture home — 1, village clubs — 19; 26 libraries (book stock: 278 300
copies); children music school for 100 children; public Districtal
museum (3000 exhibits) established in 1985. In addition to natural
resources of the District and history of Stavysche district the museum
also contains picture gallery of famous Ukrainian painters.
Places for rest and sports, swimming-pools, sporting complexes, stadiums, etc.
Every village in the district has parks and places for rest of
local importance, but Stavyshe Landscape Art Park of District
importance is the greatest in the district. Its founder is a Ukrainian
professor in law A.L.Adzheyovsky (1785-1868), who spent his last 20
years of life in Stavyshe. Territory of the park — 14 hectares.
Architectural monuments that remained till nowadays: Antonivska
church built in 1777; Bagatyrska church built in 1708; a mansion-house
of the earls Branitskies in Stavysche park, built at the end of XVIII
century (in 1774-1918 Stavysche and Stavysche district belonged to the
Polish Dynasty of the Branitsky); School in the village of Rozkishna, a
gymnasia before, built in 1896; the building of Stavysche hospital,
built in 1911.
Reserved districts of the district:
Sicilia — water-resources District of local importance (30
hectares); Revyha — reserve of local importance; Stryzhavsky botanical
reserve of local importance in Pjatygirsky forest area (248 hectares);
water-resources District “Vytoky Hnilogo Tikycha” in the village of
Snizhky (15 hectares). In the nearest future the forest of Snizhky (20
hectares) is supposed to become a reserve.
These resources and water-resources Districts contain trees and plants from the Red Book of Ukraine.
For physical training population of Stavysche may use 1 stadium
where 1500 spectators can seat, 9 sports grounds, 8 football grounds, 8
shooting-galleries, 19 gyms, 4 grounds with heavy athletics equipment,
12 gyms for going in for sports (6 of them have heavy athletics
equipment).

11. Industry.
There are 6 manufacturing companies in the district, among them 4
Joint-Stock Companies ( “Stavysche creamery”, “Stavysche Service
Transport Company”, “Stavysche Machine-Tool Plant”, “Stavysche
Foodstuffs”) situated in v. Stavyshche, 1 private company “Mriya”
(manufacturing ceramic tile) with production squares in v. Zhuravlyha.
12. Transport.
Main routes and overpasses.
Total length of the roads of state and local importance in the district: 230km. One type of transport is developed — automobile.
Public transport:
Passengers and goods are transported by the specialized vehicle
company, service transport company and 50natural persons-entrepreneurs.
The village of Stavysche is connected with Kyiv and Bila Tserkva
via direct bus route; District routes Kyiv-Zvenigorodka and
Kyiv-Vatutino (Cherkassy District) cross the territory of the district;
moreover, 6 settlements of the District are located near the highway
Odessa-Kyiv- St. Petersbourg.
13. Technical infrastructure.
Water resources and sewerage.
Drinking water, technical water, the system of water supply, prices for water.
Centralized water supply covers all the companies, organizations,
1250 private houses, 895 apartments of Stavysche, social-cultural
institutions and more than 1000 private houses in 7 villages of the
district.
Water supply in the district id provided by Stavysche house and
communal service, public utility company “Rajsilkomungosp”, 1
businessman and village cooperatives (Rozkishna, Gostra Mohyla,
Gejsyha). Total length of water-pipe: 152 km. In addition to
centralized water supply population use water from 4453 wells.
Centralized drainage system covers only the village of Stavysche. Total length of sewerage: 6.8 km.
Natural gas supply.
Average rate of gasification in the district: 70%. 24 settlements were gasified,among them
in 11 settlements gasification was completed,
the rate of gasification in 11 settlements is 55-90%,
the rate of gasification in Stavysche is 98%.
5 of not gasified settlements are thinly populated (no more than
100 people). Natural gas in the district is provided by the Stavysche
branch of exploiting gas equipment of joint-stock company “Kyivoblgas”.
It serves 441.3 km of underground gas service pipes and 218 km of
indoor lead-in.
The territory of the district is crossed by the gas-main pipeline with pressure 72kg/cm2.
2 big gas distribution companies are located here.
Communication
Communication services are supplied by a shop of electric
communication with telegraph station, which has direct connection with
all the countries of near abroad.
Stavyshchensky shop of electric communication #7 during 2007 were
provided 1,1 mln of interurban conversations and 0,7 th. of telegrammes
were sent.
The district numbers 21 automatic telephone stations, among them 20
are located in rural area and have capacity from 50 to 200 numbers and
1 central has the capacity of 2900 numbers. Number of telephone
subscribers — 4400. Supply of telephones per 100 families: 34.
Telephone station in u.v. Stavyshche was substituted for a digital
one, what made possible to increase users quantity by 600 up to 1500
including separate streets in v. Rozkishna. Also an extension of
covered area is being held by company “Kyivstar” and other operators of
mobile communication, who are building their facilities on the
territory of the district.
A district Broadcasting company “Grant” is functioning on the territory of the District.
14. Financial system.
There are 2 state financial organizations in the District:
Financial Administration of District State Administrationand
Administration of State Treasury in Stavyshchenskiy District.
At the same time 2 credit associations are functioning: “Vesta” and
Stavyshchenska Branch of credit association “Profit-centre”; 6
Stavyshche District Banks’ Branches: CCB “Praveks-bank”, “Raifaisen
bamk — Aval”, “Bank of Regional Development”, CC “Index-Bank”,
“Oshchadbank” and branch of “Private-Bank”.
Also 2 insurance companies are available: Fire and NCIC “Oranta”
